Peace & Justice Vigil
Friday, September 23, 2022, 5 to 6 pm
Martin Luther King Jr. Library
150 E. San Fernando Street
San José, CA 95112
In its 65th year of service, the San Jose Peace and Justice Center is planning a vigil locally to end all wars, including the wars that are taking place in San Jose today. War can be defined as a state of open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations (like the War in Vietnam and the illegal occupation of Iraq). War can also be a state of hostility or conflict; or a struggle or competition between opposing forces or for a particular end.
We will use an expansive definition of War for this event: any hostility or conflict against individuals or groups that are destructive. The list of causes includes:
- War on women’s bodies
- War on poor people
- War on unhoused people
- War on essential workers
- War on Immigrants
- War on our Earth (climate)
- War on “Insert your own cause here”
Today, we continue to need justice and human rights, but rather than look for the absence of tension (negative peace), it is time to rally against injustice. It is time to disturb the peace to find justice. Democracy and community are the two other important tools in this.
Please join us on the 23rd and/or the 25th of September to build community together and continue to fight the injustices so everyone is free. Our goal is to mobilize 100 people to each do an act that supports Peace and Justice. So, bring your signs to End Wars and establish peace and justice and let’s see how many cars we get to honk in support!
Community Safety Agreements:
- Masks required (Community Care always.)
- If you are sick, please take care of yourself at home.
- If you find out you were sick after the event, please let the Coordinating Council know that there was a potential exposure so that they can notify others of this. We will not share your name with others.
If you like these events and want to see more like them, please support us with a donation.
