At this perilous moment in history, Democratic Party leaders are citing Trump’s easy access to nuclear weapons as a reason to remove him from office. It should not have taken the president’s obvious derangement to remind us of the existential threat posed by the US stockpile of 3800 nuclear warheads.

On January 22, 2021, the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will go into effect. Commemorations around the world will mark the day when nuclear weapons are considered illegal under international law. Bay Area commemorations are listed on our calendar.

None of the nuclear-armed states (U.S., Russia, England, France, China, India, Israel, Pakistan, North Korea) have signed the treaty. We must demand that the incoming Biden administration pursue a policy of disarmament to ban these weapons whose use would have catastrophic humanitarian consequences.
