As nuclear powers ratchet up tensions around the Ukraine war, the U.S., NATO and Russia are carrying out nuclear war games. Yes, you read that correctly!
The Kremlin is making completely reckless threats about using nuclear weapons and how do NATO and the U.S. respond? Fourteen NATO countries are engaged in “mock” war exercises involving around 60 aircraft including fighter jets and surveillance and refueling planes. The Washington Post reports U.S. long-range B-52 bombers will also take part in the maneuvers, dubbed Steadfast Noon, which will run until Oct. 30.
These war games just serve to escalate the tensions at the very time the U.S. and NATO countries should be pushing for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. The U.S. could and should restore the treaties that our government pulled out of, including the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, which George Bush pulled out of in 2002 and the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces, which Trump pulled out of in 2019.
It’s urgent to tell Congress and President Biden to make NATO cease its nuclear war rehearsals. Please sign the petition here You can also phone the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. An operator will connect you directly with the House or Senate office you request.
