Ways to get Involved
If you’d like to discuss additional volunteer opportunities please reach out to us at your earliest convenience. The most common ways that people contribute their time to the center can be found below. Which task meets your interests and skills?
Tabling Outreach
Tabling outreach is a great way to connect with other members of your community and engage people who might be new to the area. Shifts can range from 4 – 6 hour as needed and depending on the event at which we’re tabling. Tablers will be provided with SJPJC materials and equipment, but will need to arrange their own transportation. This position requires someone who enjoys talking to people and will encourage their involvement.
office support
Welcome visitors. Answer the phone, write thank you notes. Help maintain our lending library and office space. Assemble and edit our weekly email newsletter. Office support requires a 3 – 5 hours per week commitment.
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT
Technology support includes working on our WordPress website, helping us with our technology needs, researching and testing any new software or hardware that might be useful. This position requires someone with knowledge of website design or a desire to learn more. Ideal candidates have experience with website design and can help us teach others the various steps involved.
EVENT PLANNING
Help plan creative and engaging events for everyone from start to finish. We welcome interactive classes, lectures, trainings, skills-building, and more. The more help we have, the more events we can host. During Shelter-in-Place, most events take place on Zoom.
help publicize events
On call 2–3 hours a week as event date approaches. Send announcements to news outlets, radio, television and online calendars via email and fax. Generate and send press releases for special events. Follow-up announcements with phone calls when appropriate. Design and produce event flyers.
Social Media and blogging
Help maintain SJPJC’s various social media platforms, including instagram, facebook, and twitter, making sure they are active in promoting local events and issues. Articles on various topics are needed for the blog on a regular basis as well.
