Apply to the Critical Connections Summer Program by May 9th

Shared with permission of South Bay Youth Changemakers

South Bay Youth Changemakers is hosting its third summer program, Critical Connections Summer (CCS), to develop youth leaders committed to social change and transforming the South Bay! CCS is a free program open to high school students in Santa Clara County who want to make a difference in their communities. As an Asian American-led organization, we especially encourage youth of color to apply. Stipends are available for students in financial need.

At SBYC, we know that Asian American youth are facing particular challenges from anti-Asian violence, the COVID-19 pandemic, and inadequate mental health resources in schools that perpetuate grind cultures. Developing youth leaders who are ready to transform our current conditions and create change in service of our communities is critical, which is why we need you!

For 6 weeks, participants will embark on a leadership development program to learn about social justice issues, build organizing skills, visit community organizations and sites across the South Bay, and build community. This will be an immersive, vulnerable, and fun judgment-free space. Towards the end of the program, participants will get to work on an action-based project to put what they learn into practice.

🌟About South Bay Youth Changemakers🌟

South Bay Youth Changemakers is a community organization building Asian* American youth power in the South Bay (Santa Clara County). Through leadership development, civic engagement, and community organizing, South Bay Youth Changemakers empowers young people to transform our communities and create positive social change.

*SBYC uses an expansive definition of Asian, including West Asians, Central Asians, North Asians, Southeast Asians, South Asians, and East Asians.

🌟Why Critical Connections🌟

Throughout history, social movements that have transformed our communities for the better were rooted in critical connections between people and place. Grace Lee Boggs said “Movements are born of critical connections rather than critical mass.” Critical Connections Summer builds intentional, meaningful, long-lasting relationships and grounds our work in the South Bay’s history, people, and land.
