Here are the points to make:

  • Leonard Peltier is suffering from medical neglect! He hasn’t had any kind of dental  care for at least 10 years! Federal prisoners are supposed to go to the dentist once a year.
  • He hasn’t had an eye exam in at least 10 years. He has only 20% vision in one eye, because of a stroke he suffered in that eye, and is losing the sight he has in the other eye. He needs to see an ophthalmologist to measure the pressure in his eyes to make sure he doesn’t have glaucoma. He has been complaining about headaches and is currently suffering occasional blindness.
  • He urgently needs to see an internal doctor. He has had an aortic aneurism for years and it is now 5cm. If he falls on it, the aneurism could burst and he will bleed to death.
  • He has arthritis on his right side, his hip, his arm and hand are severely impacted. He can’t sign his name because he can’t even pick up a pen. He is almost paralyzed on his right side because of the arthritis and not getting any kind of treatment for it.
  • He has diabetes and is not getting the food he needs to eat to help him manage it. Also, the prison is on constant lockdown, so Leonard Peltier, like all the other prisoners, is locked up in his cell. He can’t breathe fresh air, get exercise or get sunshine, which is super important for him for his health and well-being.
  • The accumulation of all of these illnesses are now super acute because he is not getting any kind of medical care. Not seeing doctors for years with all these health issues has worsened each and every one of these illnesses. He has to use a walker to move around, yet even with a walker he is falling.

Please let Leonard Peltier know where you are writing from so he knows that people are writing to him from all over. He might not get the envelope. Please let him know that you are very disappointed with the parole denial and that you are staying with him and supporting his freedom. Let him know that lots of people still care for him and want him free from prison.
