On July 9, 2024, about 50 people gathered outside Regional Medical Center (RMC) in East San Jose to rally against the decision of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) to close RMC’s trauma center, and its special heart attack and stroke programs on August 12, 2024. Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in East San Jose, and these closings will disproportionately impact low-income people in East San Jose in what one speaker described as “medical redlining.”
In 2020, for-profit HCA closed the maternity ward at RMC.
The only option left to stop these closures is for California Attorney General Rob Bonta to intervene on HCA’s planned closures.
