On May 24, 2024, Professor Sang Kil, a faculty member in the Justice Studies Department, received a letter from the university administration notifying her that she had been suspended from her job for “violating Article 17 of the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association.”
According to the suspension letter, her suspension will end either after 60 days or when she is notified of disciplinary action, whichever comes first. This is clearly retaliation for her strong support for the pro-Palestine students who rallied and set up an encampment on campus.
Call (408) 924-1177 or write (sjsupres@sjsu.edu) SJSU President Cynthia Teniente-Matson and demand that Dr. Kil be reinstated. Sample script: Hello, I am a community member and I am calling to demand the reinstatement of Dr. Sang Hea Kil, who has faced harassment, suppression of her First Amendment rights, and retaliation from SJSU’s administration. Dr. Kil is a respected scholar and tireless activist who should be commended, not punished for her advocacy.
