We will be at the Peace Corner (Stevens Creek and Winchester Blvds ) on Saturday March 20, at noon. Make your own signs or use ours! We’ll be masked and stretched out, socially distant along the sidewalks.
Here are our demands and ways to get involved:
End Forever Wars
The 20-year war in Afghanistan is the longest war in US history. Both Democrats and Republicans strongly objected when Trump began withdrawing troops. There are fewer US troop deaths in Afghanistan now, but large numbers of Afghan civilians have been killed in the air war. It’s way past time to withdraw all troops and end the drone killings as well. Sign a petition to the US government and the 34 additional countries with troops stationed in Afghanistan here.
Defund War – Invest in Our Communities
In 2021 we will spend over $2 billion a day on the U.S. military. By cutting even a portion of the Pentagon budget, we could eradicate homelessness in the United States ($20 billion annually). Let’s pressure our Congressional representatives to join the Defense Spending Reduction Caucus initiated by Reps. Barbara Lee and Mark Pocan. You can also sign up for training on how to advocate for demilitarizing the budget here
Demilitarize the Police
Support the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act which would limit the 1033 program that authorizes the transfer of surplus military equipment to police. For safety in our streets and communities we must start by demilitarizing the police! We should pressure Reps. Lofgren and Eshoo to sign on as cosponsors of this bill. More information on the bill is here.
End US Sanctions on Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, and other countries
Sanctions are a form of war, amounting to collective punishment of the population. Especially during the pandemic, we should not be denying access to critical medicines and supplies to the people of Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and many other nations. US sanctions are illegal under international law! Sign the petition to President Biden here.
